Festival of Quilts Result

My goodness, we had a busy time at Festival of Quilts!  There was lots of excitement and there were even queues.  We cannot thank you enough for all your generosity in making ‘Little Boxes and Bags’, in volunteering on the Stand and in buying Tombola chances.  Money is still coming in but we have already raised just over £5000 for the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles.  Thank you, you are all wonderful.

Update

I haven’t done a post for a while because it has been a busy time here at Little Boxes HQ!  New contributions to the Tombola at Festival of Quilts continue to arrive daily.  I am sure that the person delivering the post wonders what on earth is going on!  So, many thanks to the considerable number of you who are working hard to make the Tombola a success.  We appreciate all your efforts.

In the meantime, I have been to Quilt Canada which was an amazing experience.  Very Canadian and a little different from quilt shows here.  More about that in a future edition of The Quilter.  While there, I saw some more patterns:  these are commercials patterns but you might want to have a look at these interesting websites for ideas, or, indeed, purchase a pattern – I have permission from the designers to post these links here.  One is Fabric Buckets by Kaya Joy Designs: https://shop.kayajoydesigns.com/product/fabric-buckets-pattern-variable-sizes/

And the second one is Storage Solutions – Bucket Bags by Brenda.  More at https://shop.amongbrendasquilts.com/products/pattern-storage-solutions-bucket-bags

So, there are lots of patterns and ideas to tempt you into a final push before Festival of Quilts.  You can bring contributions directly to us there, rather than posting them.  We know that people are having fun making these so why not give some a go?!  Thank you, as always.

Keep the Little Boxes Coming!

Hello again, I am very pleased to be able to tell you that new Little Boxes and Bags are arriving every day!  Including some wonderful VIP ones.  The Region 6 Team had a table at the Annual Conference and AGM of The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles from 10 – 13 May and we were delighted to receive more there.  Plus promises of more to come at Festival of Quilts.  We enjoyed the chance to chat with many of you, to talk patterns and to hear what you are doing.  Please keep your wonderful work going!  We appreciate all your efforts which will ultimately benefit The Guild.

More Little Boxes

And a wonderful parcel of ‘little boxes’ arrived from Region 15E of the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles!  Thank you so much, they are just lovely.

Little Boxes Arriving

I am to start posting when new batches of ‘little boxes’ arrive.  This week we received a welcome package of little boxes from Cob Quilters in Porthmadoc.  Thank you!  Please everyone, keep them coming.

Busy Time!

Hello again, life has been getting in the way of my posting as often as I would like to.  I expect it is the same for most of you.  However, your little boxes, bowls and bags have been arriving steadily.  Thank you so much!  I have been reading a book called ‘Growing Gills:  How to Find Creative Focus When You’re Drowning in Your Daily Life’ by Jessica Abel in the hopes that I will start to carve out more creative time.  Judging by the wonderful things that you are sending for the Tombola, many of you have already cracked this.  Please tell us your secrets!  In the meantime, I am just about to add a couple of new patterns to that page.  More soon, I hope!

How to relieve stress! And an opportunity!

You might have seen this article in The Guardian:  more evidence of what we already know – sewing is good for us!  So, please keeping making those Little Bags and Boxes and sending them through: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/feb/23/the-calming-effects-of-sewing-can-help-people-express-and-calm-themselves

Love Patchwork & Quilting

The latest issue of Love Patchwork & Quilting – issue 71 – includes a small project book entitled Rainbow Makes.  On pages 8/9/10 of the booklet are instructions for ‘Storage Baskets’, which would be perfect for the Tombola.  Complete with pompom trim!  Lots of other ideas in the booklet and main magazine too.

It’s Happening!

Hello again!  I hope that you are surviving the winter so far in good spirits and with having time to sew.  We have been quite humbled by the people and organisations that have allowed us to post their patterns and videos on this site.  There will be more soon but special thanks to our first supports:  Jennie Rayment, Debbie Shore, Laura Cola, The Fat Quarter Shop and members of Region 6.  We are receiving a steady stream (thank you!) of little boxes and bags but, as always, still need more!  We know that some of you are running out of wadding so we have acquired a roll at a discount from Doughty’s.  Thanks to them too.  We also have fabric and some kits.  Please let us know if you need anything in order to keep these little containers coming in.  The best thing is, that when you win them at Festival of Quilts 2019, they will be really useful for you!

Here is a photo of the wadding waiting in my Sewing Shed – I have recently moved house so you can see that I still have a lot to sort out!
